Get to Know Yum-o!
The Rachael Ray Foundation™ (RRF) works across many areas that are important to Rach. One of its initiatives is to support organizations that align with the mission of her non-profit, Yum-o!.
Yum-o! educates kids and their families about food and cooking by enabling young cooks to get started in the kitchen and try out family-friendly recipes; teaming up with partner organizations to feed hungry children; and funding educational opportunities for kids who are interested in pursuing careers in the restaurant and foodservice industry. These pillars are Yum-o!’s three core work areas: Cook, Feed and Fund.
Rachael has deep roots in the kitchen that go back to her childhood that inspired her to create her nonprofit. “I was in the kitchen at an early age cooking alongside my mother. In fact, I was in the kitchen watching my mother and learning about food even before I picked up a spoon! She’d have me on her hip while she stirred a pot on the stove and carried on a conversation. I saw how food plays an important role in our lives.”
Yum-o! partners with organizations across the country that work in its three core areas. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, FoodCorps, No Kid Hungry, Feeding America, and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation are just a few.
“We believe that parents and kids will make better food choices if given the opportunity, knowledge, confidence and realistic options to do so,” Rachael says.
